You first have to distribute the problem, doing so you get 4x+8=20 subtract 8 from both sides to get 4x=12 divide both sides by 4 and you get x=3

4 * x + 4 * 2 = 20

4 x + 8 = 20

4 x = 20 - 8

4 x = 12

x = 12 / 4

x = 3
